Management Controller

Role Overview

The Management Controller is an accounting and finance professional who helps optimise financial and strategic results within a company. The main role of the Management Controller is to provide accurate information to managers so that they can make appropriate decisions.

In this role, the Management Controller is responsible for planning, monitoring and analysing the company's budgets and performance. They must monitor any discrepancies between results and set objectives. In the event of any differences or problems, they must make recommendations to resolve them.

To implement effective strategies and achieve common objectives, the Management Controller works in collaboration with the various stakeholders in the company, including Operations Managers, Human Resources Managers and other members of the finance team.

Main Responsibilities

In this role, the Management Controller analyses the company's costs to identify areas where savings can be made and thus optimise resources.

They also work with Operations Managers to draw up annual and multi-year budgets, based on economic and financial forecasts prepared in advance.

Monitoring the company's performance is one of the main tasks of the Management Controller, as it allows them to compare actual results with set objectives and identify any discrepancies, which are then reported to senior management.

In this role, the Management Controller is also responsible for producing regular reports for senior management, enabling them to monitor the company's performance and make strategic decisions. To ensure and facilitate this monitoring, the Management Controller sets up dashboards.

The Management Controller also plays an advisory role, as they support the various stakeholders in the company in improving their financial performance and help them to achieve their objectives.

Competencies

 

  • Accounting knowledge: to analyse large volumes of financial data and produce meaningful reports based on this data. A flair for figures is essential in this job. The Management Controller must also be able to understand the company's financial statements.
  • Budget management: to track expenses and ensure that costs remain within budget. And subsequently draw up these budgets.
  • IT skills: proficiency in the use of information systems such as expense management software, compliance tools, planning tools, payroll verification software, financial management software for scenario modelling, spreadsheets, databases, accounting software, etc.
  • Knowledge of standards and regulations: to ensure the company's compliance, the Management Controller must be aware of the regulations and standards in force in the field.
